Absolute Beginners

Everyone who quilts knows how terrifying it is to be confronted for the first time with beautiful fabric we have selected and a large pair of scissors - or even worse that evil-looking rotary cutter. But Pauline and her assistant Harriet will be on hand to guide you through your first steps. They will also be there to help you come to grips with an electric sewing machine perhaps a new one which you have just purchased for your new hobby, or maybe one which has sat in a cupboard for the last twenty years! This workshop will give you all the experience in one day to start any patchwork or quilt course afterwards! Pauline and Harriet work as a team, with Pauline teaching you to overcome your fear of cutting and Harriet being on hand to help you get to know and love your sewing machine. She will show you how to thread the machine, wind bobbins, set your tension, use the different stitches and feet and clean your machine.

Pauline will guide you through the process of cutting with the rotary cutters, using the measurements of the ruler and the boards and will give you an introduction on the different available rulers. Together will we produce a Roman Stripes wall hanging at the end of the day. Please bring your sewing machine(in good wrking order and with instruction manual), basic sewing kit, 0.5 m of background fabrics and 4 fat quarters. We supply the rotary set. Happy cutting and sewing!
